You are not alone.  Obesity and being overweight is the fastest-growing epidemic in the United States. Obesity is now considered a disease by the medical community and the solution is complex.

There is no one size fits all diet.  A successful weight loss program requires a multi-faceted approach that addresses nutrition, exercise, life style medications, and a deep understanding of what is going on in your body that is causing you to stay overweight despite your efforts to lose weight.


At Biosymmetry Wilmington, Dr. Holmes and his team are here to help you on your weight loss journey and will work with you to make it a successful one.  Our goal is not only to help you reach your weight loss goals but to improve your overall metabolic health in the process.

It is important to know where we are starting.  We want explore potential road blocks and challenges that need to be addressed in order for you to reach your goals.  This involves a thorough assessment that includes, comprehensive blood testing, body composition assessment, an EKG, and metabolism assessment.

You will have an appointment with Dr. Holmes.  During this visit he will review the results of your test with you and will learn what is going on in your body metabolically that is influencing your overall health and your weight loss challenges.  Based on your test results and your goals the two of you will work together to develop a strategy for weight loss.

This strategy will include:

  • Diet modification
  • Exercise plan
  • Medications individually tailored to your goals and needs:

Examples:  stimulants, GLP-1 agonists, etc.

From here you will begin to work your plan and return once a month for a Diet recheck with Dr. Holmes and his team.  We will assess your weight loss progress, discuss how your diet and exercise efforts are going, as well as assessing the tolerance and effectiveness of any medications you are being subscribed.

It is important to point out that your weight loss plan is not set in stone.  It will be a customized and adaptive to what is working for you and as your goals change along the way.

Flexibility leads to sustainability.

The transition. The day you reach your weight loss goal will be a celebration!  However, the work doesn’t stop there, nor do we leave your side.  Maintaining your weight and solidifying the results of your hard work is every bit as important as losing the weight itself.

Dr. Holmes and his team will work with you to transition your focus from active weight loss to maintaining your weight.  This will include discussions on how to wean off of mediations, spread out appointments, and make adjustments to your diet and exercise strategies.
